This is a song I wrote a long time ago, after a dream I had.
It's one that stayed with me. I think some songs just sit with you like that - not moving on, just waiting.
I guess it always felt like a place more than a song.
A candlelit wood, somewhere just outside of everything else. No mirrors, no noise, no one watching. Just enough light to see what’s in front of you.
I think that’s what I was trying to hold onto when I wrote it - a moment where nothing else gets in the way.
There’s something fragile in it.
Two people, a bottle of wine, the sense that it might not last, even while it’s happening.
The kind of moment you don’t question at the time, but end up returning to later, trying to understand what it meant.
I came back to it recently and recorded it as simply as I could.
No real changes. Just a bit more space around it.
It felt better not to push it too far - to leave it close to how it first arrived.
There’s a line about seeing someone at sunrise. I’m not sure I understood that when I wrote it but it makes more sense now.
Some things only really come into focus after they’ve gone.
It’s available on the website now.
If you listen, I hope it feels like a place you can step into for a moment.
